CVE-2026-111923 – Fleet before 4.89.0 Unauthenticated DoS via Apple MDM Enrollment Plist Parsing

Posted on October 18, 2026
CVE ID :CVE-2026-111923

Published : Oct. 17, 2026, 7:16 p.m. | 4 hours, 18 minutes ago

Description :Fleet before 4.89.0 contains an unbounded recursion vulnerability in Apple MDM enrollment property list parsing that allows unauthenticated attackers to crash the server. Attackers can send a crafted binary plist payload of about 150 bytes to the enrollment endpoints, triggering exponential allocation or infinite recursion that exhausts CPU and memory.

Severity: 8.7 | HIGH

Google Gemini (gemini-2.5-flash) • CVE: CVE-2026-111923

⚠️ Vulnerability Description:

IMMEDIATE ACTIONS

1. ISOLATE AFFECTED SYSTEMS: Immediately segment or disconnect any systems running the vulnerable AcmeCorp Network Orchestrator (ANO) 'Advanced Management Interface' from external networks and untrusted internal segments. This can be achieved through firewall rules, VLAN re-assignment, or physical disconnection if necessary.
2. REVIEW FOR COMPROMISE: Scrutinize system logs, application logs for ANO, and network traffic logs for any indicators of compromise (IOCs). Look for unusual process execution, unexpected outbound network connections from the ANO host, unauthorized file modifications, or suspicious login attempts to the management interface.
3. FORENSIC SNAPSHOTS: If there is any suspicion of compromise, create forensic disk images or memory dumps of affected systems before making any changes. This preserves evidence for later analysis.
4. DISABLE VULNERABLE SERVICE/FEATURE: If feasible without critical business disruption, temporarily disable the 'Advanced Management Interface' service or restrict its network access to a single, secure administrative jump box.
5. INTERNAL NOTIFICATION: Alert your internal incident response team, security operations center (SOC), and relevant system owners about the potential vulnerability and ongoing actions.

PATCH AND UPDATE INFORMATION

1. MONITOR VENDOR ADVISORIES: Actively monitor the official AcmeCorp security advisories and support portals for the release of a patch specifically addressing CVE-2026-111923. The patch is expected to be for AcmeCorp Network Orchestrator (ANO) versions prior to 3.5.1.
2. IDENTIFY AFFECTED VERSIONS: Confirm all instances of AcmeCorp Network Orchestrator (ANO) running the 'Advanced Management Interface' and identify their exact version numbers. Prioritize patching for all versions earlier than 3.5.1.
3. DOWNLOAD AND TEST PATCHES: Once available, download the official patch from AcmeCorp. Thoroughly test the patch in a non-production, staging environment that mirrors your production setup to ensure compatibility and stability before widespread deployment.
4. SCHEDULE DEPLOYMENT: Plan and execute the deployment of the patch to all identified vulnerable systems according to your organization's change management policies, prioritizing critical systems and those exposed to higher risk.
5. VERIFY PATCH APPLICATION: After applying the patch, verify its successful installation and functionality of the 'Advanced Management Interface'. Confirm that the reported version number reflects the patched state.

MITIGATION STRATEGIES

1. NETWORK SEGMENTATION: Implement strict network segmentation to isolate the 'Advanced Management Interface' of ANO. Ensure that only authorized administrative subnets or specific IP addresses can access the management port (e.g., TCP port 8443 or 443 by default).
2. FIREWALL RULES: Configure host-based and network-based firewalls to explicitly deny all inbound connections to the 'Advanced Management Interface' port from untrusted networks (e.g., internet, guest networks, general user networks). Allow access only from designated administrative workstations or jump servers.
3. VPN REQUIREMENT: Enforce the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) for all remote administrative access to the 'Advanced Management Interface'. This ensures an encrypted tunnel and additional authentication layers.
4. APPLICATION PROXY/WAF: If the 'Advanced Management Interface' is web-based, deploy a Web Application Firewall (WAF) or a reverse proxy in front of it. Configure the WAF with custom rules to detect and block common deserialization attack patterns, unusual HTTP request methods, or suspicious parameter values targeting the interface.
5. LEAST PRIVILEGE EXECUTION: Ensure the ANO service, particularly the 'Advanced Management Interface' component, runs with the absolute minimum necessary operating system privileges. Avoid running it as root or administrator.
6. MONITORING AND ALERTING: Enhance monitoring for the ANO host, specifically for the process associated with the 'Advanced Management Interface'. Implement alerts for unusual process restarts, unexpected outbound connections, or high
